Schools set to celebrate Australian National Flag Day

Schools are encouraged to hold special flag-raising ceremonies on Thursday 3 September to celebrate Australian National Flag Day.

The Australian flag turns 108 this year, with the Australian national flag first flown in 1901.

The Australian National Flag Association is encouraging schools across the country to hold flag-raising ceremonies to enhance students’ appreciation of the history and significance of the Australian flag.

During the ceremony, recognition could be given to the symbols of Australia’s history, represented in the flag by the Commonwealth Star, the Southern Cross and the flag of the United Kingdom.
