For 103 years the Australian National Flag has been flying proudly as an important symbol of our unity and strength.
Australia is a country of diversity; our flag represents our shared spirit. From Indigenous Australians, the first inhabitants of this land, to the generations of migrants who have landed on our shores, we are united under the “Stars and Crosses”.
We are a rightly proud nation and it is under this flag that we have endured many hardships and celebrated many successes.
I encourage all Australians to celebrate Australian National Flag Day 2004, to raise the flag and reflect on the values that unite us as Australians – a sense of community, of citizenship, of fairness and above all mutual respect for each other.
